Right. The Simpsons Movie. Can the long running cartoon series transition to the movie format without breaking horribly?
Would it have been easier to have answered the above questons if we hadn't been drinking before seeing the film? probably. Can I manage to finish a film review within a month of seeing it? hopefully.
The film opens with a much bigger version of the series' normal opening sequence, culminating in Green Day playing a environmentally themed concert on a floating stage on the lake.
Despite a large scale environmental campeign, Homer manages to pollute the lake. To contain the problem the whole town is enclosed in a giant dome
Naturally Homer hasn't exactly covered his tracks, so the population od Springfield is less than happy.
The film throws you straight in, and before you realise it you've forgotten its not just another episode. The pacing is quite well done (although the alcohol may have covered places where it dragged...) and I certainly didn't feel tired of it at any point, which was my greatest concern
Overall, the good bits were like a good episode. At worst it felt like a middling episode.
It seems to be the trend to comment on how the Simpsons isn't as funny as it used to be in a review of the film. To be honest, As I don't have Sky and have no desire to deal with NTL, I couldn't tell you. These days I prefer the fast, abstract cutaway humour of Family Guy, but I'm getting off track.
Overall, as good as I was expecting. Not astoundingly better or worse, which means quite good,
