This usually means the quality of the entertainment I select is somewhat variable. It seemed this time that it was especially bad with nothing obvious that I wanted to see here's the highlights or lowlights.
Saw this rather odd film called Bronson about britain's most violent prisoner. It didn't help the flow of the film that the entertainment system kept freezing but still this is a pretty strange bit of cinema. Tom Hardy playing the main character does a very good job at playing a nutter. I think the last time I saw him was playing Bill Sykes in Oliver Twist and the only other role I know of his is the bad guy from Star Trek Nemesis so I guess he has Nutters down.
I watched Pixar's Bolt a bit kidsy but Pixar stuff is almost always watchable at some level. The whole dog that believes he's a super hero when in fact he's just a normal dog on a tv show is an interesting premise if a bit crazy. The animation was wonderful as always and it wasn't a bad voice cast.
It even got so bad that I decided to watch Twilight just to see what the fuss was about. Blimey what a train wreak that film is I can only assume the books are like that because the film meanders all over the place making very little sense, I guess you have to worship the books to get it. Seemed like a half arsed vampire film to me with a load of pale 30 year olds pretending to be teenagers. I've seen better many times before, for me Near Dark will always be the best Vampire film.
I also watched The Bourne Supremacy which I think is my favourite of the three films. One is good two is terribly depressing but three is pretty good and does nicely round up the series. It's lots of really well executed action and spy intrigue which went down well after the mush that I'd had to wade through in the previous film.
Recently I also watched Star Trek which I really enjoyed. I'd had my doubts about this when it was coming up and after the last few trek films that were just awful who can blame me but it seemed pretty much perfect in it's execution. Even in some really good films there are often weak points you can highlight that don't ruin the film but seem to be areas they could have done better. In this film I couldn't really think of any. The only niggling comments I could put against it are really just nitpicking. There is a certain amount of deus ex machina to make the plot work but it is internally consistent and they take a few liberties with physics but still it is a real joy of a film to watch with an excellent cast wonderful special effects great action and a great story. Basically go out and see it now.
